Talent Show

This week, our school had a Talent show.  Lots of people performed in the talent show.  There was lots of acts such as:  Magicians,  dancing,  singing, the cup song,  playing an instrument and story telling.  I performed in the talent show with a bunch of my friends,  we danced to Star ships.  Every year I look forward to the annual Talent show.

The Great and Powerful Oz Review

The other day I went and saw the movie The Great and Powerful Oz.  The movie was based on the Wizard of Oz--which is a classic movie.  In the movie, Oz the Great and Powerful,  there is a land called Oz.  In that land they are waiting for their "wizard".
Oz is in his usual city working as a magician. Everyone hates him because he is cheating on all his girlfriends.  Then he is forced to travels by air balloon to the land of Oz where everyone treats him like he is a wizard.  The land of Oz then has a war between evil and good.  The "wizard" travels and fights with a china doll and a flying monkey.

I am not going to tell you any of the details or the ending because I want you to find that out for yourself.

Math Electives

Today we did math electives. I really enjoyed doing them! For my math elective that I went to was called probability math. In that elective we rolled a die and that would match up with a shape and you would draw that shape on a square, then you would roll l it again for the colour and the background colour. After we were finished we created a big mural.

Inferring

This is the book that we did inferring with. Our  teacher read a page without showing us the picture. Then we had to describe what we saw or draw a picture of what we saw.  Some of the pages give it away what the picture is of but some are really challenging.  I recommend this book to you for reading!!

Pick A Song

As a assinment, we have to pick a song by a Candain artist and present it with other people and sing it together.
The song that I think we should do for it is called You Can't by Jason and The Diatonics.

The reaons why I think we should do this song is because it is a little different from our other songs. The other songs are a little more upbeat. But this song is more flowing then the rest.
The song has many verses that have messages. I also think we should do this song because the artist is Canadian and not may people know this artist so I think it'll be good for people to experience a new singer.
I also think we should do this song because then some of our other songs have different verses and words/lyrics then the rest. Like our other songs are a little more rock verses and this is more Country and it might be a little of a challenge to sing whch I think might be good.
Here is the song that I think we should do:

Space Math

Today in class we did a really cool word problem based on a video that is called I.S.S. (you can watch the video on my other post!)
We had to figure out how many times we will need to go up our school stair cases to reach the international space station  In order to figure out what our answer was we had to multiple steps.
Here are some of the steps that we took:

How many steps are in the stair case?

How tall is one step?

How long is it from here to the International Space Station?

And some other steps!

We came up with the answer splitting up into groups doing different steps and then we came together and figured it out.

I want to see if you can figure out what the answer is if I only give you some information.

One step is 18 cm tall
There are 38 steps in our school
From here to the space station it is 354 km

What you need to do is find the answer with the very little info I gave you.
Answer in a comment once you think you got the answer.

UPDATE: Me and one of me classmate timed our self to see how long it would take to go up. It toke us 20 seconds at walking pace. We figured out that if we started at the beginning of April we would finish on Sept 8th going 20 secs per flight 1hr and 30mins a day.

I.S.S. -- Is Somebody Singing?

This is the song we based our Math on! It is a really neat song especially because it's a duet from space to earth!

S.O.R. -- Street Of Rock

Street of rock is a choir that on of my friends put together. We all sing together and play the shakers and drums along with the uke and guitar.
Right now at SOR we are singing:
Trouble by Taylor Swift
Summer Vibe by Walk of the Earth
I Love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett and The BlackHearts
Stompa by Serena Ryder

It is a really fun thing to do out of school. You get to see your friends an sing and most of all have FUN!!!!!

Lip Dub

A Lip DUb is were you get to lip sink to a song. Some times it looks pretty neat because girls might sing boy parts or vise-versa.
Here are is one of the ones I love:

In class we are doing a lip dub to ISS with people all over the world. I think it will be pretty awesome!!

Steve!!

This is our class pet, Steve! Our family is taking care of him for March Break! I think he is having a pretty good time!!

Our teacher wanted to know how he was doing so this is what we wrote:
"Steve completely misbehaved. He wouldn't go to bed at a proper time. He is now grounded until Thursday. Please talk to him about his behavior  I tried, but he just swam away and seemed to ignore me, how RUDE!!

P.S. I think he may have a gas problem, there are bubbles all over the tank!!"

And then this is what she said:
"Oh, Steve. No one will want to take care of you over the holidays if this is how you act!"

The Story of How Sam Became Evil
A villain is just a victim's story that hasn’t been told.
                                           -Chris Colfer
Tom Thumb’s story has been told worldwide, but the one story that hasn’t been told is the story of Tom Thumb’s father, Sam.
Sam’s life was fine before January 5th, 1997, when everything changed.  It was Jan 4th when he  woke up from his nap that he had taken while he was working in his shed in the central part of the woods.  He chopped trees into smaller pieces.  He chopped a few more pieces of wood before he headed back to his shack just north of his shed on horseback.   Once he arrived, he went inside the shack and took off his old boots.  He went into the kitchen where a lovely stew was steeping on the table made by his beloved wife, Julia. He gobbled up his stew and headed off to bed.  That night was the night that everything changed.  Sam had a ring that has been passed down through generations and generations - from his grandpa, to his wife, to Sam, and soon his son.

That night the ring was left perched on the edge of his oak  nightstand just waiting to fall.  Sam’s uncle, Fred who despised  Sam ever since he became more popular than him.   Fred always wants to get revenge, but he wonders how.   Then it came to Fred!   He’s going to steal the ring that their family loves.  He wanted to steal the ring so that Sam’s son couldn’t receive it.  Fred was getting ready for his big mission,  but he had 1 worry - he can’t go running into Sam’s house willy nilly.  He must come up with an idea to help him steal the ring. Eventually, after hours of thinking, it came to him.  He came up with the smartest invention yet:   5 cm short minions.  Fred would create them to  steal the ring from Sam.  He knew Sam wouldn’t see him do it because they would be too short to even notice.  The next day he put his plan into action. He released his minions and let them do their job.   The minions stole the ring and gave it to their master, Fred. without Sam noticing.   What they didn’t realize,  is that Sam did as a matter a fact see the whole thing, from start to finish.  Sam couldn’t go after them because he was too tired and the minions were too fast. Sam was very sad that his ring had been stolen.   He was definitely scarred forever.  When Julia gave birth to their child they were wondering what to name him. They finally decided on Tom Thumb.   They named him Tom because his grandpa’s name was Tom.   Sam hated Tom Thumb because he was way too short.  Sam had terrible memories involving short things, such as the minions.  Julia saw a huge resemblance between  Tom and Sam (but not  their height!)  A few days after Tom was born the family became broke.  Sam lost his job when he worked at the shed and all their  money was stolen.  The family couldn’t afford feeding everybody, so they had to give somebody away.   Julia and Sam had a meeting after Tom went to bed and decided that they had to give Tom away because he was the most unloved family member.  The next morning when Tom woke up,  Julia and Sam told him the news. Tom took it very well and packed his stuff and headed into the forest alone without anybody to keep him warm.   After a while Tom was starving so he searched and searched for hours trying to find food. Then he finally found a bush pack full of yummy berries that squirt out sweet red juice.  Tom ate at least 20 berries until he got completely full.  Back at the shack,  Sam and Julia were managing just fine without Tom.  One month after abandoning poor, useless Tom,  Julia passed away from  heart failure.  Sam felt so lonely without Julia. He wanted company so he would feel less lonely.  He decided to go looking for Tom.  Sam went into the woods and searched high and low, east and west, and still couldn’t find Tom.  After searching for at least five hours straight he was getting sweaty  and was ready to quit.   He walked at least ten more miles until he finally heard something.  Tom was talking to somebody, but he couldn’t figure out who he was talking with.   He walked closer and closer, then he saw exactly what happened.  Tom was talking to the ANIMALS!   All sorts of different animals:  birds, deer, butterflies and many others.   Sam ordered Tom to come to him,  but Tom  wouldn’t listen.  Sam was furious with Tom because their family has a policy that has been around for generations and generations:
You’re forbidden from being within’ 30 meters of an animal, and of course you aren’t allowed talking to them.
Tom had no belief in that rule at all,  but Sam said “a family rule is a family rule no matter what”.  Sam had it with Tom.   He wanted to ground him, but he couldn’t because he was too happy to see Tom after all that had happened to him at home.   Sam gave Tom a big hug then told Tom all about his mom’s passing. After they were done , Sam treated Tom to some berries, but Tom had to say  “NO!”
And so they lived Happily Ever After.
