Rock Of Ages 9-12 / School Of Rock

Almost every year we do this thing called School of Rock, this year,  because of the school board problems we couldn't do it.  So we decided to fit it into the curriculum.
But now that it's over we are starting to do school of rock again.

We decided to call it Rock Of Ages 9-12.  In rock of ages each class gets a chance to present a song to the rest of the juniors.

Here are the songs that each class chose to share:

-Stoma, by Serena Ryder
-Big Yellow Taxi, by Counting Crows
-Little Boxes, Walk Off The Earth Version
-Ordinary Day, by Great Blue Sea
-I.S.S., by Chris Hadfeild and Ed Robertson-Barenaked Ladies singer
-Takin' Care of Buiness, by Bacham Turner Overdrive
-Summer of 69, by Bryan Adams
-Rockin' in the Free World, by Neil Young

Stompa--Ray's Class
Here are is the video and lyrics:

People, working every night and dayNever give yourself no timeGot too many bills to paySlow down, nothing’s gonna disappearIf you give yourself some roomTo move to the music you hear

Gotta get up, listen to meClappa your hands, stompa your feet

People, looking for the great escapeLooking to the greener sideTrying to find a better waySlow down; open up your big brown eyesFeel the rhythm in your heartYou don’t even need to try

Gotta get up, listen to meClappa your hands, stompa your feet
Nothing is wrong, if you move to the beatClappa your handsStompa your feetStompa your feet

When you can’t seem to shake off all the feelings that are breakingLittle pieces of the music that’s in youAll the pain that you feelI can prove it’s not realThere’s just one thing you gotta do

Gotta get up, listen to meClappa your hands, stompa your feetNothing is wrong, if you move to the beatClappa your handsStompa your feetStompa your feet

Big Yellow Taxi--Natilie's Class
Here is the video and lyrics for the song:

Here is the Counting Crows version and here is Joni Mitchell singing it:

Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique and a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged all the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees (please!)

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Late last night the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi took away my old man away

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot (3x)

Little Boxes--Shauna's Class
Here is the video and lyrics:

little boxes on the hillside
little boxes made of ticky tacky
little boxes on the hillside
little boxes all the same

there’s a pink one and a green one
and a blue one and a yellow one
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

and the people in the houses
all went to the university
where they were put in boxes
and they came out all the same

and there’s doctors and lawyers
and business executives
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

and they all play on the golf course
and drink their martinis dry
and they all have pretty children
and the children go to school

and the children go to summer camp
and then to the university
where they are put in boxes
and they come out all the same

and the boys go into business
and marry and raise a family
in boxes made of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

there’s a pink one and a green one
and a blue one and a yellow one
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

Ordinary Day--Tiiu's Class
Here is the video and lyrics:

"Ordinary Day"
I've got a smile on my face, I've got four walls around me
The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me
I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose
I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad

[Chorus:]
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right.

Janie sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying?
Let them say what they want, she won't stop trying
She might stumble, if they push her 'round
She might fall, but she'll never lie down

[Chorus]

In this beautiful life, but there's always some sorrow
It's a double-edged knife, but there's always tomorrow
It's up to you now if you sink or swim,
Keep the faith and your ship will come in.
It's not so bad

And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say
I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say
it's alright

'Cause it's alright, it's alright
'Cause I've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me

I.S.S.--Owen and Andrew's Class
Here is the video and lyrics:

On solid fuel and wires
Turn the key and the light the fires.
We’re leaving Earth today
The rockets burning bright
We’ll soon be out of sight
And orbiting in space
Pushed back in my seat
Look out my window
There goes home
Source: LYBIO.net
That ball of shiny blue houses everybody anybody ever knew
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
Eighteen thousand miles an hour
Fueled by science and solar power
The oceans racing past
At half a thousand tons
Ninety minutes Moon to Sun
A bullet can’t go half this fast
Floating from my seat
Look out my window
There goes Home (There goes home)
That brilliant ball of blue
Is where I’m from, and also where I’m going to
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
All back and white just fades to grey
Where the sunrises sixteen times a day
You can’t make out borders from up here
Just a spinning ball within a tiny atmosphere (atmosphere)
Pushed back in the seat
Look out my window
Here comes home (ho-ho-home)
What once was fueled by fear
Now has fifteen Nation orbiting together here.
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
You’d know why I want to get back soon (getting back to you)
You’d know why I want to get back soon (getting back to you)
You’d know why I want to get back soon (getting back to you)
You’d know why I want to get back soon

Her is the video, it is really cool!

Taking Care of Buisness--EVERYONE
Here is the video and lyrics:

They get up every morning from their long clock's warning
Take the eight fifteen into the city
There's a whistle up above and people push and people shoving
and the girl's who try to look pretty
and if your train's on time you can get to work by nine
and start to sleep and talk to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day

and I've been (( taking care of business )) every day{< (( Taking care of business )) every way
I've been (( taking care of business )), it's all mine
(( Taking care of business )), and working overtime, workout

{ guitar solo on 1 chorus }

There's work easy as fishing, you can be a musician
If you could make sounds loud or mellow
Get a second hand guitar and chances are you go far
If you get in with the right bunch of fellows
People see you having fun just a-lying in the sun
and tell them that you like it this way
It's the work that we avoid and we're all self-employed
We love to work at nothing all day

and we've been (( taking care of business )) every day
(( Taking care of business )) every way
We've been (( taking care of business )), it's all mine
(( Taking care of business )), and working overtime
..........Funkay!

{ guitar solo on 1 chorus }

{ just drums }

Woo! Alright! Ow! Ya....

{ 2 phrase }

Take good care of my business when I'm away every day, woo!
( Ha ha! Ya! )

{ guitar solo }

They get up every morning from their long clocks' warning
Take the eight fifteen into the city
There's a whistle up above and people push and people shoving
and the girls who're trying to look pretty
and if your train's on time you can get to work by nine
and start to sleep and talk to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day

and I've been taking care of business every day
Taking care of business every way
I've been taking care of business, it's all mine
Taking care of business, and working overtime, ooh ya...

{ drums only }

(( Taking care of business )) Woo!
(( Taking care of business ))
(( Taking care of business )) Ya! { 3 part }
(( Taking care of business ))
(( Taking care of business )) every day { guitar }
(( Taking care of business )) every way
(( Taking care of business )), it's all mine
(( Taking care of business )), and working overtime...woo!
(( Taking care of business )) { band }
(( Taking care of business ))
We've been (( taking care of business ))
We've been (( taking care of business )), woo! { fade }
(( Taking care of business )) every day
(( Taking care of business ))...woo!
(( Taking care of business ))

Summer of 69--EVERYONE
Here is the video and lyrics:

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it till my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
Shoulda known, we'd never get far

Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always want to be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenings down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh yeah
Back in the summer of '69
Ohhh

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, forever, no

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
Think about you wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh yeah
Back in the summer of '69
Un-huh
It was the summer of '69, oh yeah
Me and my baby in '69, oh

It was the summer, the summer, summer of '69

Rockin' in the Free World--EVERYONE
Here is the video and lyrics:

Colors on the street
Red, white, and blue
People shuffling their feet
People sleeping in their shoes
There's a warning sign in the road ahead
There's a lot of people saying we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try Forget them any way I can

Keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world

I see a girl in the night
with a baby in her hands
Under an old street light
near a garbage can
Now she put her kid away, she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done with it
That's one more kid, that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool

Keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world

Solo

There's a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
There's a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
There's department stores, and toilet paper
Styrofoam garbage for the Ozone layer
There's a man of the people, says people alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive

Keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
keep on rocking in the free world
