We also had Richard at our school on Monday, our first artist of the week.I couldn't find a picture of him, sorry!

About these blues artist:

Richard: Richard is a blues artist that plays the guitar, he is really good, trust me. He tought us about the 12 bar blues.

Amanda and Anna: They have been in the business of music for more then 10 years, they perform at many concerts.

The Celtic Rathskallions: The Celtic Rathskallions are blues and country artist, who own multiple music stores, on is the Folklore Center (i highly recommend going there it is a really nice shop) and they are opening snother one close by. The girl that is apart of the Celtic Rathskallions writes books, Madi's Moon and Madi's Harp.

Shaun and His Friend: Are blues artists from Kanata, Canada and I think enjoy doing blues.

I am so glad that our school did blues in thew school, THANK-YOU Blues artist for coming in and our school for organizing it!!

Anti-bullying Day

Today is ant-bullying day, at our school we are all wearing pink tops to support bullying awareness.

It all started when this kid in high school wore a pink shirt to school, he got bullied for wearing a pink shirt.
The toughest people in school-- the football players, thought that it was totally wrong, so after school they went out and bought a bunch of t shirts to wear to support the kid.

One of the classes in our school went around passing out pink bracelets for everyone and telling us a little bit about anti-bullying day.

Double Digit Multiplication

I am going to explain double digit multiplication in three different ways: pictures, video, and words.
Here is a how to do Double Digit Multiplication:

Here is are some videos on multiplication, they are split into 3 different videos.
Video 1
Video 2
Video 3

Here I wrote the instructions:
  1. You multiple the bottom right number by the top right number and write your answer underneath the bottom right number--carry any tens into the top left number.
  2. You multiple the bottom right number by the top left number and add any tens from the last question into your semi-final answer.
  3. Next do the same, but instead of  multiplying with the bottom right you multiple by the bottom left number--but the answers from this question a row underneath your last answer.
  4. Final step before getting your answer, add the two numbers answer numbers together.
That may have been a little confusing to you, but to some of you that may be very helpful.
Here is a picture of double digit multiplication to help:

           Tens  Ones
     5 6
  x 4 2
------------------------------------------
  1 1 2
+2 2 4
--------------------------------------
  3 3 6

Tobacco and Alcohol

Our class has been talking lots about tobacco and alcohol, and how bad it is for your lungs and body to breath in all the bad chemicals.
Here is video that represents driving when you have alcohol:

ONCE YOU WATCH IT WON'T HAVE THE SAME AFFECT AS IT DID THE SECOND TIME AROUND!

The way it represents driving: When you are driving, you're focusing so much on where you are going rather then what you surroundings are. For example if you are driving you don't realize the pedestrians so you could run over them or hit them without even realizing they are there, or that they were there in the first place.

That's only 1 reason why you shouldn't smoke, there are many more reasons.

I'm telling you now: DON'T SMOKE, OR ELSE BAD THINGS CAN HAPPEN!

Guatemala Hearing Aid Presentation

Yesterday, my teacher's mom came in to talk to us about hearing aids! Every year she goes to Guatemala to put hearing aids into peoples ears. It is amazing because some people may have never even getting a chance to hear, hear. She must feel great after helping all those people!
It was really fun, she made a hearing aid for our teacher by mixing together some play dough like mixture and putting it into a tube then compressing it into her ear. Then we waited till it hardened and took it out. It looked kinda funny because you could see the part where her root canal fitted.
Here is her Blog!
Here are some pictures of Guatemala (she did not take them though):
Beautiful Antigua, Guatemala
This is some of the cloths they wear-close up
This (I think) is one of the hospitals she went to

A Safer and More Bicycle Friendly Town!!

Today we had a guest come in and talk to us about Streets and Bicyclists.
We talked about what's dangerous about streets and what's safe about streets. We also talked about what streets can be used for. Most people think streets are just for cars, but no, that's not true they can be used for other things beside cars.
Such as:
-pedestrians
-buses
-cyclist
-motor cycles
-wheel chairs
-strollers
-animals
Some people call Ottawa: Autowa  because our town has so many cars.
Here's a video that we watched to inspired us to want our town to become like Copenhagen's:

We are trying to come up with some ways of helping our city becoming like Copenhagen's.
We thought we could write some letters to the city, or something like that.

The reasons why I think we should have Ottawa like Copenhagen are:
-I know that it may be expensive for the city, but I think it's diffidently worth it, because bikes are just as important as cars, put it this way, bikes could be some peoples only way of transportation
-Another reason I think we should do it is because we could probably reduce the amount of bicycle accidents that happen if we make it safer for the bikers
-Plus it would help reduce the pollution in Ottawa and the other environmental issues that may occur because of car's gas/fuel

But remember if you do want to bike, you should wear a helmet just to be safe!!

Stop Motion!

Here's another really cool stop motion!!!
I really like the music they used for it. After watching it twice, I still can't believe they used that many jelly beans!

Qatar Visitors

On Febuary 22nd we are having 2-6 people from Qatar visit our school to learn about Alternative schools because they are thinking of opening a Alternitive school in there country.
Here are some facts about Qatar for you:

1 Qatar dollar is equal to 100 fils which is like canadian  dollars 1.00 canadian dollar is equal to 100 cents
<--That's what Qatar money looks like

Did you also know that the language that they speak in Qatar is Aribic. They say "Hello" in Qatar like this:
"مرحبا " which pronounced MAH-A-BA they say "blog" like this: بلوق
It's prounced BA-LOOT I think!

The people from Qatar want to know why Alternative schools are so good, here are 2 of my reasons I think alternative schools are so great:
I like them because you get to do a lot of fun things that some other schools don't get to do.
I aslo think alternative schools are awesome because you get split classes which is great because you get the chance to work with other grades and not only yours.

Mystery Skype :0)

Tomorrow our class is doing a mystery Skype with a class in a different place  We have to figure out what place they are from with only yes or no questions! I think it's going to be quite tricky to guess where they are from but will see.
We signed up on this website called Blogging Through The Fourth Dimension.
The video that they posted is of them doing there call with a mystery Skype!

We chose jobs in our class just like they did! We are going to have our our class that we are skyping with up on the projector and have a bunch of stations set up to help us find where they are from!
I'll do an update tomorrow to tell you how it went!!

Pennies For Polio

Pennies For Polio is a fundraiser to help people in different countries around the world that have been effected by Polio.

 About Polio:
Polio is only in 4 countries to this day: The boarder of Chad, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Only a couple years ago India became a Polio FREE country! That's amazing, is it not?
Polio is a disease that came around in 1900's. There was a HUGE outbreak, about 60,000 people died from this disease, doesn't that make you sad? :(
The thing that is really good is that each vaccination cost only 60 cents! It's hard to save Polio in Afghanistan because there is the big war going on.

Some of our ideas to help raise money for polio:

-The thing with the vaccination is that instead of having a needle you get 2 or 3 drops of a liquid. Since they have stopped making pennies then we can donate ALL of our pennies to save the lives of lots of people.
written by Finley
-Another idea that would be good is to have a bake sale or a little Booth
written by Fiona
-We could also do a speech to convince people to give money to donate
